5 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

Not sure how to spend the last weekend in January? From ice skating in Leeds’ city centre to exploring York’s most exciting attractions for free, there’s plenty to do across Yorkshire this weekend.

1. Blood Brothers
Date: Until Saturday February 4
Location: Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield
Willy Russell’s legendary Blood Brothers tells the moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. The production by Bill Kenwright’s has seen over 10,000 performances in London’s West End and has been described as the ‘standing ovation musical’.

2. Ice Cube
Date: Until Sunday February 19
Location: Millennium Square, Leeds
The Ice Cube will be returning to Millennium Square this month, promising fun and adventures for all the family – regardless of ability – with its new covered ice rink. Guests can enjoy the Capital FM snowslide, winter themed rides and attractions including the Ice Jet, which is new for this year.

3. Bromance
Date: Saturday January 28
Location: Hull Truck Theatre, Hull
Bromance is the debut show from Britain’s young acrobats, winners of the 2013 Circus Maximus Award and 2014 Total Theatre and Jackson’s Lane Award for Circus at the Edinburgh Festival. Relationships are the heart of Bromance, where handshakes become handstands and backslaps become backflips. Said to be audacious, touching exhilarating, and with a great soundtrack, this is a tour-de-force of cutting edge physical heroics, wittily exploring male companionship and its limits. Expect a combination of Bboying, tricking, hand-to-hand acrobatics, Cyr wheel and more.

4. York Residents’ Festival
Date: Saturday January 28 – Sunday January 29
Location: Various venues across York
York Residents’ Festival is giving locals the chance to explore the city and be a tourist for the weekend and it’s all for free! Organised by Visit York the annual Festival is the city’s way of saying thank you for the warm welcome York’s residents give to it’s 7 million visitors each year. Discover York’s visitor attractions for free and wine and dine using discounted offers all weekend throughout the city. All visitors need is a valid YorkCard which can be bought from all of York’s public libraries.

5. 80s party night
Date: Saturday January 28
Location: Scarborough Spa, Scarborough

Relive the 80s in Scarborough  this weekend. Enjoy a three course meal followed by an 80s disco where you can dance all night long. DJ Michael De Freitas will be playing all the hits from Madonna, Prince, Bowie, Duran Duran and many more. Fancy dress is encouraged so dust off those shoulder pads, leg warmers, acid-washed jeans and jumpsuits!
