Liquidation for food manufacturing business

A food manufacturing business in Huddersfield which supplied blue chip companies has been liquidated.

Shaw & Lyle, trading as S&L Catering, manufactured 8m high quality sandwiches a year.

Creditors met in January and a winding up petition was brought at the beginning of February as it entered the insolvency process.

Gareth Harris and Keith Marshall, both of RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP were appointed as liquidators on 2 February and its assets are being sold off.

The machinery and business asset division of Walker Singleton Chartered Surveyors has been appointed to sell the company’s assets.

Primary production equipment including sandwich production lines and packing equipment is included at the auction, as well as the contents of the boardroom and offices.

A statement on the announcement of the winding up order said: “That it has been proved to the satisfaction of this meeting that the company cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business, and that it is advisable to wind up the company, and accordingly that the company be wound up voluntarily and that [RSM] be and are hereby appointed Joint Liquidators for the purposes of such winding up and that the Joint Liquidators are to act jointly and severally.”

Its domain name slcatering.com is already up for sale.

Allan Chapman MRICS, director at Walker Singleton commented “The company operated a modern production facility utilising automated equipment from leading manufacturers, focussed on volume sandwich production – as demanded by the blue chip client base the business serviced.

He added: “As the industry has become aware of the demise of S&L we have already received several expressions of interest and we anticipate the auction will generate strong, competing interest.”

The auction will close on Friday 17 February 2017.
