Approval for Wellington Place development

MEPC’s 7 and 8 Wellington Place development has been given initial approvals following proposals launched last year.

The council last week gave reserved matters approval for the site after the success of the existing Wellington Place schemes.

MEPC announced it was unlocking a further 1 million sq ft of land at the site and followed the announcement with proposals for further buildings at the site.

7 and 8 Wellington Place is being targeted at the Government, which is relocating its Leeds functions and is looking to move in by 2018.

The new proposals will deliver an eight-storey building of more than 375,000 sq ft of internal office space as well as just over 22,00 sq ft of ancillary space for retail sites.

MEPC submitted planning in November 2016 for the eight-storey building which will add to the growing Wellington Place development, which includes tenants Ward Hadaway, Shulmans, Squire Patton Boggs and Sky Betting & Gaming.

Since outline planning permission was granted in 2008, Wellington Place has been in the works. 5, 6 and 10 Wellington Place have all been completed, and 3 Wellington Place is due to finish this year.
