Artist’s vignettes place viewers in the frame

A former art teacher is returning to the scene as a professional artist with a collection of figurative oil paintings, created in the hope of tugging at the heartstrings of its viewers.

Nigel Mason’s works focus on capturing moments in time to resonate with the viewer’s own life experiences and will be displayed at Castle Fine Art on Saturday February 25 when the artist himself launches the Vignettes exhibition.

Vignettes focuses on capturing moments in time that can resonate and evoke the viewer’s own memories. One example of the works – Cosy Chat – pictured above, encapsulates a private conversation between a couple seated in a café.

Mason said: “The Vignettes collection focuses on evoking feelings from the audience by allowing them to imagine themselves in the scene, whether that be the joy taken from a sweet in childhood or the captivation of a conversation with one that you love.”

Having taught himself from an early age, Mason has painted a variety of landscapes, beach scenes, and figurative works inspired by his local area and influenced by Rembrandt, Sickert, Vuillard, Degas and Whistler.

Gallery Manager at Castle Fine Art Gordon Farmer said: “Nigel Mason is firmly on the rise, even after such a short time working as a professional artist. Following phenomenal success with his other works, there is no doubt that the Vignettes collection will enjoy the same interest.

Mason will be at Castle Fine Art, York, Coppergate Shopping Centre, 19
Castlegate, on Saturday February 25 from 1-4pm to launch the exhibition which will be on display until next Saturday.
