£12m contract win marks fifth prison job for Britspace

EAST Yorkshire firm Britspace Midular Buildings has won a £12m contract to build two new prison houseblocks at HMP Littlehey.

The contract – the fifth for the Gilberdyke-based firm – will see the manufacture of 240 cell houseblocks and create more than 40 new jobs.

Production will start in January with installation of the first houseblock due to start in mid-April with the second phase continuing in early May.

Britspace, which is part of GB Industries and has more than 30 years’ experience in designing, building, manufacturing and constructing steel framed modular buildings, has already completed previous custodial contacts at HMP Kirklevington, HMP Blundeston, HMP Rochester and more recently HMP Wealstun.

Sylvia Grant, Britspace personnel manager said: “We have a healthy order book for the New Year not only creating more than 40 new employment opportunities but also giving a big boost to the local economy.”
