Barbados resort owner acquires Bridlington Golf Club

BRIDLINGTON Golf Club is in new hands today after being acquired by the Pure Leisure Group.

John Morphet – chief executive of Pure Leisure Group – has taken over the Bridlington Links in a multi-million pound deal.

The deal secures the future of the club – which has been operated by the Hancock family since 1999 – and will also see millions of pounds invested to upgrade facilities.

Mr Morphet is the man behind exclusive Royal Westmoreland Golf and Leisureland Report in Barbados.

John MorphetA former farmer – Mr Morphet’s property portfolio in Barbados includes luxury villas built for celebrities including former England captain Michael Vaughan, and Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney.

Subject to planning permission from East Riding Council – the Links project could include around £3.5m investment to build a fitness and leisure centre, along with a gym and swimming pool close to the 18-hole golf course.

The club already has 43 luxury log cabin lodges, with Pure Leisure planning to add a range of eco-friendly holiday and homes to the site.

The Pure Leisure Group, which is based in Carnforth, Lancashire, was founded 20 years ago.
