Engineering firm marks milestone with recruitment drive

Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers in Leeds has announced plans to recruit more staff as it celebrates 10 years in business.

The firm, which started when three former colleagues set up in business together, now employs 30 people and has a turnover of almost £2m.

It plans to employee at least five more staff within the year.

Business partners, Erol Erturan, Matthew Ramsden and Richard Parker, who had worked together for a number of years at the Leeds office of a large multi-national consulting engineering practice set up Adept in 2007.

Erturan says: “We felt it was the right time for us to branch out together and a number of key clients supported us with our new venture, many of whom we still work for today. The first few months of the business were fairly low key, but when we won a civil and structural engineering commission to work on a £12m office park development at Birchwood, Warrington for Marshall CDP, we set on our first members of team, and that’s when our growth journey really began.

“This project was followed by several notable wins for clients including Park Lane Properties, retail giant Next, and Yorkshire Housing, and by the end of 2007 Adept had grown to seven staff members including our very first apprentice.”

Over the last 10 years turnover has quadrupled to £1.75m. The company now works for many regional and national construction and development firms including Strategic Team Group, McCarthy & Stone, Simons Construction, Marshall Construction, Interserve, Asda, Next and Town Centre Securities.

Erturan says: “It’s been an incredible 10 years, where we have continued to grow, expand and invest in our business, service offering and our people. In fact, we opened a Manchester city centre office at the end of 2015 in response to winning a range of high profile contracts throughout the North West, and that’s proved to be very successful.”

Projects that Adept is currently working on in Manchester include Marshall CDP’s £20m transformation of Gateway House, known as the ‘lazy S’ building, next to Piccadilly Station, into a 182-bedroom aparthotel that incorporates retail and office space.

Adept predominantly works across the commercial, warehousing, retail, ecclesiastical, educational, healthcare, food processing and residential sectors, providing a full range of civil and structural engineering solutions.
