Former chef to fashion designer Donna Karan steps up to the plate at North Yorkshire gastro-pub

The Angel Inn at Hetton in North Yorkshire, arguably the first “gastropub” in the country in the early 80s, has had a change of leadership in the kitchen with the appointment of its first new head chef in 18 years
Originally from Vermont in America, Bruce D’Aloia has travelled the world, working at a luxury resort on Turks and Caicos and as private chef to the New York fashion designer Donna Karan.
D’Aloia said: “When I looked into the pedigree of this lovely Dales inn I realised this is exactly where I wanted to be. My food is all about delivering pleasure on a plate, offering appetising and creative choices that include the classics alongside something a bit different to make people sit up and take notice and, most importantly, to come back for more.
“This is the ethos that first made The Angel famous. I’m tapping into a huge pool of talent here in the kitchen and our food is reflecting that.”
Managing director Pascal Watkins said: “This is the most fantastic opportunity for us. Bruce is very charismatic as well as an enormously talented chef; the Angel is truly experiencing a renaissance.”
The Wine Cave, in the historic barns opposite, will be the venue for D’Aloia’s cooking demonstrations, a regular Chef’s Table and private dinner parties.
