Happy New Year message from TheBusinessDesk.com

THEBUSINESSDESK.COM would like to wish our users a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
There can be little doubt that 2008 has been a year of major change in the business world with the onset of the global economic slowdown and the much publicised ‘credit crunch’ leading to drastic measures being taken by the Government to try to calm the storm.
In Yorkshire alone, hundreds of jobs have been lost, businesses have collapsed and numerous high profile property ventures have been mothballed as a consequence.
The banking sector, which has been affected globally, has also been hit in this region with Bradford & Bingley being part nationalised and fears of further redundancies still alive as the Lloyds takeover of HBOS progresses.
But despite the negatives Yorkshire is still very much a positive place to do business as many items on this website over the last 12 months bear testament to.
Despite difficulties accessing finance deals are still being done within the region and, in many cases, transactions completed elsewhere are using professionals from Yorkshire to act and advise on them because of their knowledge, experience and expertise.
Many commentators are painting a bleak picture for 2009, concluding that problems will continue in markets including housing, stock, exchange, retail and banking, with most suggesting the worst is yet to come.
There will no doubt be further casualties in 2009 but by using Yorkshire know-how, capitalising on our entrepreneurial skills and positively capturing the mood of optimism still prevalent across the region, there will be many opportunities to take advantage of.
