Appointments: Promotion at Henton & Co; New chairman for YCR; and more

HENTON & Co, the Leeds and Sheffield-based accountancy firm, has promoted audit director Chris Howitt to the position of associate.
Mr Howitt has been with Henton & Co for seven years and has worked his way up from newly qualified accountant through to manager, director and now associate.
He specialises in advising clients on the commercial aspects of corporate restructuring.
Mr Howitt said: “I am delighted with this promotion and look forward to taking a more active role in practice management issues and business development.”

YORKSHIRE Cancer Research (YCR) has appointed a new chairman to help boost its annual income by at least £5m over the next decade.
Director and former chairman of York Science Park Professor Anthony Robards has taken over the role from retiring chairman Dr Brenda Jackson, who has held the position since 1996.
Professor Robards is keen to raise YCR’s income from £5m a year to more than £10m alongside the charity’s newly appointed chief executive Mark Stevens, former sales director of Bradford and Bingley.
Professor Robards, a Fellow of the Society of Biology, will also be looking to invest YCR funding in new areas that benefit patients directly as well continuing the world-class medical research at the universities of Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, York and Bradford and their associated teaching hospitals.

LAW firm Walker Morris has strengthened its regulatory services group with the appointment of associate Andrew Northage from SJ Berwin in London.
Mr Northage specialises in a range of finance work including FSA investigations and enforcement and other regulatory matters involving a contentious aspect.
He also has experience in advising a wide variety of regulated firms on non-contentious aspects of their business, particularly conduct of business, systems and controls and regulatory capital issues, as well as applications to the FSA for Part IV permission.
He specialises in advising on related regulatory issues including fraud, money laundering and corruption.
