Active Tagging set for dramatic rise in turnover

HALIFAX firm Active Tagging looks set to increase its turnover after being helped by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS).
The firm, which employs five staff, says it is on track to increase it current turnover from £350,000 to £2.2m this year – and is confident of achieving £5m in 2010 as a result of the advice.
Founded two years, Active Tagging specialises in manufacturing ultra long range radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, which can be used for numerous applications such as tagging hospital patients.
The location of the tags is identified with a series of digital radio receivers, which send information to hospital computers.
The user friendly tags are now specified by many of the UK’s leading health care trusts and a growing overseas market, which includes France, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia.
Following a manufacturing review by MAS consultant Phil Warrington from The Support Group, the company successfully achieved ISO 9001 accreditation.
He also helped teach the senior management team the fundamentals of strategic planning, leading cange and how to take a process based approach to business improvement.
Chris Bullock, who founded the firms said: ““The business was expanding rapidly and demand for our product was huge.
“At a critical stage of the business I recognised that I needed to get advice from an external expert to confirm and help me to introduce the ideas and changes that I felt were needed to take the business forward.”
He said that with the help of MAS the company had achieved a “seismic shift” in its strategic focus.
“This has resulted in overall productivity increasing by more than 300% and turnover by 152%,” he added.
“We have just invested £150,000 into further research and development and have created another two jobs as well as safeguarding jobs with our external suppliers.”
MAS is a government initiative funded by regional develoopment agency Yorkshire Forward and managed by YFM Business Development, a subsidiary of YFM Group.
