Business leaders link with international students

LEEDS Business School, part of Leeds Metropolitan University, has launched an initiative that aims to bring international students together with the region’s business leaders to share knowledge and build contacts.
The Leeds International Student and Business Network (LISAB) has been set up to help companies understand business cultures across the globe.
The event, supported by Leeds City Council, Leeds Metropolitan University and Welcome to Yorkshire, featured key figures from the region including the Lord Mayor, the faculty dean and representatives of the business community, who welcomed international students to Leeds and offered information on the area.
Lord Mayor of Leeds, Coun Jim McKenna, said: “I was delighted to welcome all the international students to our city. The event provided both the students and businesses of Leeds with the opportunity to learn about business in various countries and to build key contacts.”
Leeds Metropolitan University is a key destination for international students, many of whom are attracted by the city’s high profile as a centre for industries and professions such as financial services, accountancy, law and marketing.
Barbara Colledge, dean of the Faculty of Business & Law at Leeds Metropolitan University, said: “We were delighted that we had the support of our Lord Mayor, our city leaders and regional businesses for this civic welcome for our international business and law students.
“The event provided our students with an opportunity to learn more about our great city and to build their contacts with the Leeds business community as future business professionals in the global economy. Regional business leaders have an opportunity to harness the talents of our business and law students and to learn more about the contribution they can make to our region.”
