Cox in at Morrisons

THE chief executive of power generation company International Power has been appointed as a non executive director at supermarket chain Morrisons.

Philip Cox will take up his new position at Bradford-based Morrisons on April 1. 

Mr Cox has been chief executive of International Power since 2003. The company has interests in more than 45 power stations.

Mr Cox is also a non executive director at Wincanton.

Philip CoxMorrisons said it was anticipated that Mr Cox would be appointed chairman of the Morrisons audit committee after an induction period.

Paul Manduca will remain as committee chairman until the handover, and will continue in his role as senior independent director.

Sir Ian Gibson, chairman of Morrisons, said: “We are delighted that Phil Cox has agreed to join the group. His experience will add greatly to the board’s existing strengths.”

Mr Cox said: “Morrisons is one of the UK’s leading companies, and I very much look forward to joining the board at this exciting time in its development.”

Morrisons reported last month that it had achieved record customer numbers over the crucial Christmas period with an 8.2% rise in like-for-like sales excluding fuel in the six weeks to January 4.
