Footballer turned sandwich king aims to become The Apprentice

A FORMER youth footballer who runs a chain of sandwich shops is among the latest group of aspiring business tycoons aiming to land a top job with Sir Alan Sugar.

Rocky Andrews, who lives in North Yorkshire, is the youngest candidate on this year’s series of hit BBC show The Apprentice.

Mr Andrews, who claims he already earns more than the salary on offer from Sir Alan, left school at 16 to pursue a football career with Middlesbrough but was diagnosed with arthritis which effectively ended his chances of becoming a professional.

The following year, the 21-year-old decided to start up a sandwich business which now includes shops across the North East of England.

“For me business is about hard-work, attention to detail, being willing to make mistakes and learning from these mistakes,” he said.

Also among the hopefuls is Hull-born restaurateur Yasmina Siadatan, 27 who has lived in Los Angeles and Iran and is now based in London.

Other candidates hoping to land a £100,000 position with Sir Alan’s Amstrad include a Tanzanian beauty queen and a New Yorker who has performed Mozart in Carnegie Hall.

The show begins on March 25, at 9pm on BBC One.
