As the government prepares to close the job retentions scheme down from October, the challenges for businesses across Leeds are far from over.

In September, changes to the scheme saw the Treasury’s payments fall from 80 per cent to 70 per cent per employee.

Employers will have to pay a minimum of 10% of wages, bringing the worker’s total monthly earnings to at least 80% of their salary – up to a maximum of £2,187.50.

A total of 9.4 million people have been furloughed since March, with one in four employees still enrolled, according to latest figures.
