Trio Media, a digital marketing agency based in Leeds, is set to continue with the four day working week after the 6-month trial saw revenues rise by 45%.

Trio Media is a full service digital marketing agency with clients across a range of industries, including technology, retail, manufacturing and financial services. In June 2022, Trio Media joined 73 other companies embarking on the trial of a four day working week, with no loss of pay.

At Trio Media, the decision to enrol their 12 employees onto the trial was made after looking at ways to be more productive. The evidence-based research into the 4 day week suggested that working shorter hours could not only give employees a better work/life balance, but make them more productive too. During the 6-month trial, Trio Media has not only seen an increase in productivity, but have also seen exponential sales growth, with a year on year improvement of 45%.

Trio’s CEO, Claire Daniels, explains the motive to join the four day week trial: “Entering the trial, I was slightly nervous about how it would work for us, but I really wanted to do something forward thinking that could benefit the business in multiple ways. Whilst my primary motivator was productivity, the opportunity to create an amazing workplace experience that gave people more freedom and flexibility, made it a really compelling decision.”

Adopting a new working pattern for any business doesn’t come without its challenges, and Daniels explains how they made it work at Trio and what she learnt in the process. “We found the support from 4 Day Week Global really useful, as they held several webinars and workshops that helped us to map out how we could integrate the 4 day week into our business. I communicated and consulted with the whole team throughout the process to ensure we were doing something that worked for everyone. Going forward as we embark on a further 6 month trial on our own, we’ve made changes to the way it works to allow people to manage their time off more effectively.”

Trio Media have committed to a further 6 months working the four day week, where at the end of the full 12 months a decision will be made on integrating the 4 day week permanently. For now, staff at Trio Media get to continue to enjoy working four days, for five days pay.
