Leeds based developer CEG wins Coveted Best British Homes Award

CEG, the developer behind Kirstall Forge and a key South Bank site in Leeds, secured the coveted Sunday Times Best British Homes Award for Best Apartment Building this week.

Many of the principles and the approach behind the Best Apartment Building award winning scheme for Radstock House will be implemented at both of these key Leeds schemes.

Radstock House lies in the heart of Battersea’s creative district and is a new build mixed-use scheme it comprises of eight luxury apartments, an art gallery and creative office space.

The sandstone façade has created two modules each with a luxury penthouse at the top. These surround a landscaped courtyard.  Each apartment enjoys the full floor plate of the apartment block with either a double or triple aspect creating generous, well-lit lateral spaces. The ground floor houses an art gallery and offices with the design taking reference from the surrounding area, including the Royal College of Arts Dyson Building.

Phil Stallwood, Development Manager at CEG, said; “CEG is delighted to have beaten stiff competition to win the Best British Homes Award for Best Apartment Building. Many of the principles in our approach at Radstock House will be implemented at our forthcoming Kirkstall Forge and South Bank developments where we are delivering architect designed homes, with a contemporary design that also reflects the heritage of the area.”

The judges stated that this high quality development used beautiful materials which resulted in strong elevations with attractive composition of different architectural materials. There was a strong attention to detail with careful internal planning and wonderful glazing components. It is a well-considered, refined and sophisticated development with an excellent relationship between the interior and exterior.

CEG submitted a planning application in August for the first phase of residential development at Kirstall Forge (CGI shown). This includes 112 unique new family homes unlike anything seen before in Leeds, along with 23,000sq ft of retail, leisure and community space set around a vibrant public square. Designed by Stirling prize award-winning Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, these contemporary homes are designed to resemble the local stone of the old forge building and Kirkstall Abbey.

CEG also secured Commercial Developer of the Year at last week’s Yorkshire Property Awards.
