International accountancy and advisory firm Mazars has agreed a sponsorship deal with athlete Emma Beckwith to support her in the 2017 race season. Highlights include representing Team GB at the World Duathlon Championships where she will compete in the 20-24 year old age group Standard Distance Duathlon.

Held in Canada in August 2017, 21 year old Emma has been selected to compete for Team GB following her success at last month’s European Championships where she achieved second place in the Standard Distance Duathlon event. Emma has already been successful in qualifying for the 2018 European Duathlon Championships in Ibiza, Spain following a tough race at the National Duathlon Championships in March. The race incorporates a 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run.

Emma, who is a student at the University of Leeds and is currently on her placement year at Mazars working in the firm’s Audit team, became involved in triathlon five years ago at the age of 16. As well as competing in duathlons, biathlons and cross country events, Emma is also a keen triathlete and has entered her first half Ironman which will take place later this year. Her lifetime goal is to compete in the Ironman World Championships held in Kona, Hawaii.

Emma Beckwith explained: “I am thrilled that Mazars is sponsoring me. I have qualified for this event for the last three years but haven’t been able to compete due to financial constraints and the fact that it has clashed with my university exams. I am really looking forward to competing. I have been training both before and after work most days to ensure I can reach my potential.”

Mazars’ sponsorship will help contribute to Emma’s costs of competing at an international level; including flights, accommodation, race entry fees and Team GB kit.

Ian Wrightson, UK Executive, Head of People and Culture at Mazars, said: “Emma is a highly talented athlete and having seen first-hand how dedicated she is to her sport we couldn’t be happier to support her representing Team GB at the European and World Duathlon Championships. She is a great example of how a combination of talent and dedication can lead to achievements in both sport and education. She has made a great impression during her time at Mazars and has become a highly valued member of the team.”
