New coffee shop to “redefine” Derby scene
Derby’s Iron Gate is set to be home to a new independent coffee house.
BEAR is making a “substantial” investment in the historic Cathedral Quarter property and working closely with Derby City Council to fit out the empty building.
BEAR says it sees sees itself as “part of the global third wave coffee movement” that views coffee as an artisan foodstuff, rather than a bland commodity.
Founder Craig Bunting believes his business will “redefine the café-bar experience” in Derby.
He said: “Myself, along with childhood friend, Michael Thorley, opened our first outlet in Uttoxeter in 2016, with Chris Price joining us as co – director shortly afterwards. We are delighted to be expanding to Derby, the city where Michael and I shopped and skateboarded as kids.
“Our vision is to combine better coffee during the day with an alternative bar experience in the evenings – served by skilled, passionate staff. Until recently, coffee shops and pubs have been very different places, with a different clientele – BEAR is part of a growing movement that breaks the mould and offers a unique vibe”.
BEAR is set to open in Derby in late Summer with recruitment being announced via social media.
