Gentleman’s cruiser a surprise late addition in Nottingham auction

The Serenity of Hamble

The best bit about auctions is you can sometimes sail away with a bargain.

And that was certainly true for the buyer of 14 Trentside at Burrows Farm in Clifton Village which sold for £156,000 at SDL Auctions Graham Penny’s Nottingham auction last week.

Not only did the bidder walk away with a two bedroom, riverside timber bungalow with mooring and fishing rights, the seller also added in a classic gentleman’s motor cruiser within the price.

“Serenity of Hamble” is an elegant mahogany-hulled 37ft craft was built in 1958 at Teddington on the River Thames by H. Gibbs and Son. She was restored to a very high standard by Mills Dockyard, Trent Lock, Notts. six years ago and given a GRP sheath over the hull. Since then a new Kubota nanni 50HP diesel engine and gearbox (104 hours only) has been installed and she has been completely rewired. This beautiful boat, which has a current licence and boat safety certificate, is currently moored outside 14 Trentside.

Vejay Pal, senior valuer at SDL Auctions Graham Penny, said: “This was certainly not your usual lot and I am sure the addition of a fine gentleman’s cruiser can only have helped the property to sell for nearly double its guide price of £80,000.”
