Nottingham firm completes new Center Parcs project

The new lodges

Nottingham civil and structural engineering firm BSP Consulting has completed a project that has seen the design and build of a new style of accommodation for family short break provider Center Parcs.

The company acted as the civil and structural engineer for the steel platforms of three new Waterside Lodges at Elveden Forest, Suffolk, which have just been unveiled.

The Waterside Lodges are the first type of Center Parcs accommodation to be situated on the water’s edge of the main lake – providing stunning lake-side views and giving families the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with wildlife in the forest and on the water.

In addition, BSP also provided engineering services for the foundations of 51 new Waterfront Apartments and nine new three-bedroom Executive Lodges at Elveden Forest, which have also recently been completed.

The schemes at Elveden Forest were the latest undertaken by Nottingham-based BSP Consulting for Center Parcs, with previous projects including Treehouses at Sherwood Forest, built in 2010, and the construction of buildings at the newest village, Woburn Forest, such as the Arrivals Lodge, as well as the Cycle Centre, some of the activity facilities, together with buildings for Technical Services, Housekeeping and Ground Services.

Associate and chartered structural engineer at BSP Consulting, Monika Anszperger, said: “The Waterside Lodges were an interesting and challenging project, in engineering terms, as they were built on steel platforms that jut out over the lake and have a spectacular aspect.

“BSP Consulting is proud to have played a role in this new style of accommodation for Center Parcs, and to have continued our relationship with Center Parcs which has stretched over eight years – helping the company to provide incredible accommodation and high quality facilities at its sites across the UK.”

Built by Cocksedge Building Contractors, the lodges offer large open plan living areas, scenic views from private balconies, plus a decking area for dining and relaxing. Each lodge has been built to perfectly complement the forest’s landscape through the use of natural materials such as timber and stone.

Martin Dalby, chief executive of Center Parcs said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the introduction of our latest innovation to the exciting range of accommodation available at Center Parcs. The lakes within our forests are a place families spend lots of time, be it to enjoy leisure activities on the water or simply to spend time relaxing on the beach. We believe that families will love spending their holiday time in our new, unique Waterside Lodges, with the added advantage of the beautiful waterside setting.”

The new accommodation at Elveden Forest is part of an overall reinvestment by Center Parcs across five UK villages including accommodation, leisure facilities, restaurants and the introduction of some new activities.
