Developer reveals more plans for 300,000 sq ft Guildhall site

A planning application to start work on the £110m Guildhall redevelopment in Nottingham city centre will be submitted in the late Spring or early summer, according to the development director of Miller Birch, the owner of the site.

Mark Bielby has told TheBusinessDesk.com that the 300,000 sq ft scheme will be made up of a hotel, student accommodation and around 90,000 sq ft of offices.

When asked, Bielby told us the hotel will be “busness class”. He said: “In terms of classification, hotels seem to be moving away from a star classification and prefer to use alternative terminology. This will be a business class hotel which be at the quality end of the spectrum.”

“In terms of the remainder of the site we are proposing a mixed-use development comprising student welfare facilities and student accommodation, which will obviously complement the adjacent Newton and Arkwright main NTU city centre campus, plus about 90,000 sq ft of offices.”

Miller Birch bought the site from Nottingham City Council in 2016. The Guildhall previously housed Nottingham’s central police and fire services, which have since moved to Byron House on Maid Marian Way and a purpose built station on London Road respectively.

The building had previously been a criminal and magistrates court up to 1995, and it was revealed that there is an extensive network of caves under the building.
