Shopping centre to get major TV themed visitor attraction

Lowry Centre

A major new ITV themed visitor attraction is to open at a shopping centre in Salford.

The opening is part of the £26m revamp of the Lowry Outlet centre at Salford Quays but details of the scheme have not been made public.

Lifestyle Outlets, which is part of Peel L&P, has announced a deal with ITV as part of the ongoing improvements at the waterside centre.

ITV has signed a multi-year deal and will be opening a big brand immersive leisure attraction, the first of its kind, next year.

Rufus Radcliffe, chief marketing officer, for ITV said: “We are delighted to confirm the Lowry’s new Watergardens development in Manchester will become home to an exciting new leisure attraction, which is set to open next summer, with an ITV big brand experience at it’s heart.”

The deal with ITV is part of a wider masterplan and £26m regeneration of the Lowry into a leading leisure and retail destination that will also see the opening of a new waterside restaurant next year.

Planning was granted in March this year and work has already started on “The Watergardens” that will see the transformation of the southern waterfront into a new leisure destination offering a new 30,000 sq ft restaurant terrace.

The centre will also benefit from a new Metrolink line which opens next year.

Details on the attraction itself are being kept under wraps for now.

ITV’s list of visitor attraction include Coronation Street The Tour, Emmerdale Village Tour, Emmerdale Studio Experience, This Morning Live and the more recently announced, ITV Daytime Studios Tour at Television Centre in London.

Jason Pullen, managing director of Lifestyle Outlets said: “Lifestyle Outlets are at the forefront of creating the next generation of outlets and this exciting partnership with ITV will reinforce our position of delivering leading retail and leisure destinations with immersive leisure attractions”.

Lifestyle Outlets currently have two centres – Gloucester Quays and the Lowry Outlet at Salford Quays.

The model is already proving successful with more than 12m visitors and a 10% growth in sales in 2018/2019.
