Carlsberg drops pier petition

BREWING giant Carlsberg UK has withdrawn a winding up order it issued against a Blackpool pier.

Last month Northampton-based Carlsberg issued a petition against Northern Victorian Pier Ltd, the owner of the town’s North Pier which opened in 1863.

The papers claimed Carlsberg was a creditor of the pier which has several bars.

But Carlsberg told an agreement had been reached so the firm decided not to proceed.

The pier was acquired last year by the Sedgwick family from Trevor Hemmings’ Six Piers business. Over the past 20 years, the Sedgwick family has developed a number of rides and attractions on Blackpool’s South and Central Piers, including the Big Wheel.
