£19m land deal moves Southside development forward

The Kent Street Baths site

A developer has paid £19m for a site in Birmingham city centre as part of its plans to build up to 580 apartments.

High Street Residential has bought the larger of two plots earmarked for regeneration on the site of the former Kent Street Baths. It already owns the other, smaller piece of land.

The developer said large institutional and wealthy private investors are “already committed” to buying the apartments when completed.

The site in Birmingham Southside is between Bromsgrove Street and Kent Street. It was home Kent Street Baths, which opened in 1851 and was subsequently heavily damaged in the Second World War, before finally being demolished in 2009.

Gary Forrest, chairman of The High Street Group of Companies, said: “Our developments will support the huge regeneration initiative underway in the south of Birmingham, providing attractive homes for those working in modern jobs being created by a fast developing hi-tech sector.”

The £133m development of two buildings adds to projects which High Street Residential is undertaking in partnership with Taylor Grange Developments at Holloway Head, close to the Mailbox retail centre, and in Moseley Street, Digbeth.
