£10.75m student accommodation complex set for Selly Oak

A £10.75m student accommodation development is set to be built on a former industrial estate in Selly Oak.

The scheme, the latest project negotiated by North West builder Construction Partnership UK (CPUK), will see the construction of six two and three storey buildings creating en-suite bedroom accommodation for 331 students.

The new accommodation is planned to be ready for its first student intake in September this year.

The Elliott Road plot is located on the site of a former industrial estate, next to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, a newly constructed housing development and the former Selly Oak hospital.

The scheme is the latest large-scale student development contract negotiated by CPUK and its first major project in the West Midlands.

It helps bring the Skelmersdale builder’s order book to more than £50m.

As well as the accommodation blocks, CPUK will create reception and communal areas, separate laundry and reading room facilities, external landscaping, a cycle shelter and parking.

Steve Burke, CPUK’s managing director, said: “This is our first major contract in the West Midlands and follows on from our first successful construction projects outside the North West in Scotland and Cumbria which we won last year.

“We are continuing to gain work in different parts of the UK as our geographical expansion programme continues to develop in the right way.

“It’s also the latest negotiated contract for us, which I believe is the best way to get value for money for our clients.”
