200mph Jaguar sports car set to star at Geneva Motor Show

A 200mph special edition of Jaguar’s popular F-Type is set to be one of the stars of this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The new F-Type SVR is the first production Jaguar to be have been developed by JLR’s in-house skunkworks, the Special Vehicle Operations unit.

The Swiss motor show, the first major event in the European automotive calendar, will see the sports car make its global debut.

Lighter, faster and more powerful, the new sports car is designed exploit the vehicle’s full potential while retaining its day-to-day usability.

John Edwards, managing director, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said: “The new F-Type SVR is the first series production Jaguar to be developed by Special Vehicle Operations and benefits from everything we know about precision engineering, performance and design.

“The result is a 200mph, all-weather supercar that you can drive every day – we even made a convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system.”

The Geneva show starts on March 1 and JLR said full specifications and pricing for the F-Type SVR would be released next month prior to the show.

The car goes on sale in the UK this summer.

Before then, JLR could have a clutch of new awards under its belt – including the most prestigious of them all, World Car of the Year.

The company has not one, but two models in the running for the title after a jury of distinguished motoring journalists drew up the shortlist of the 10 cars in the running for the title.

The Jaguar XE and Discovery Sport face competition from the likes of Audi’s A4 and the Mercedes Benz GLC.

However, the company’s vehicles have also been shortlisted in a number of other categories.

The 2016 World Luxury Car will be chosen from one of these top five finalists:
•    Audi Q7
•    BMW 7 Series
•    Jaguar XF
•    Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe
•    Volvo XC90

The 2016 World Performance Car top five finalists are:
•    Audi R8 Coupe
•    Chevrolet Camaro
•    Honda Civic Type R I
•    Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé
•    Range Rover Sport SVR

The five finalists for 2016 World Car Design of the Year are:
•    Cadillac CT6
•    Mazda CX-3
•    Mazda MX-5
•    Jaguar XE
•    Land Rover Discovery

The top three finalists in each category will be announced at the Geneva show on March 1, with the winners announced at the New York International Auto Show on March 24.
