Council’s housing programme completes new residential scheme

Nuplace

A HOUSING investment programme set up by Telford & Wrekin Council has completed its first development.

Pool View at Randlay has seen 31 new homes constructed by contractor Lovell on the edge of Telford town park. The scheme is already fully let.

Nuplace, as the programme is called, has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from tenants, both about the process of applying and the properties themselves.

Work is continuing on the programme’s other development at Woodland Walk in Madeley, although only 16 of the 101 properties are still available.

Nuplace, which is a wholly-owned company of the council, will be starting construction of new homes on two new sites shortly.

Building work at The Oaklands in Dawley and in Madeley Court will start in the autumn with two further sites at Hadley and Newport starting due in the new year, subject to planning approval.

The Dawley scheme, in Matlock Avenue, will feature 91 two and three bedroom homes. Some of these will be sold on the open market with the rest available for private rent.

Cllr Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Housing, said: “It is fantastic that our first site is now fully completed and all 31 properties are reserved.

“Nuplace is already an unqualified success and is a prime example of the council’s focus on finding new income streams and becoming less reliant on central government funding.”
