Land promoter sells development site

Birmingham-based land promoter Richborough Estates and development agency Fisher German have completed the sale of a 22-acre development site in Leicestershire to regional developer, Mulberry Developments.

The land, situated on the northern edge of medieval village Great Bowden, already has planning consent for 50 homes, along with a country park, allotments and a children’s play area.

The existing village sits within a Conservation Area and Richborough Estates undertook extensive consultation with the local community, parish council, Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council in delivering the outline plans.

Steve Louth, regional director at Richborough Estates, said: “Given the sensitive nature of the site and, in particular, its location of the site adjacent to the conservation area, we wanted to ensure we were engaging with the local community and various authorities in the right way and that any outline designs were in keeping with the feel and quality of the village.

“By liaising with the district council, we have also ensured that the proposed development is in-line with the authority’s emerging Local Plan, delivering much-needed housing in one of the county’s best postcodes.”

Steve Mitchell, residential director at Mulberry Developments added: “This is a fantastic location and we believe our development proposals will not only make an important contribution to the local housing supply but once completed will become an asset to the village and its surroundings.”

The Great Bowden scheme joins other Mulberry developments planned for Leicestershire including one in neighbouring Kibworth Harcourt, plus Appleby Magna and Great Easton.

A reserved matters planning application for development of the site was lodged by Mulberry Developments in December.
