Esh puts a lid on it with £1m contract

Construction firm Esh Group has won a £1m contract to built the new rooftop extension at Leeds College of Music.

The extension will incorporate a bar and catering facilities, whilst a revamp of the conservatoire’s 350-seat concert hall The Venue.

Local architects Group Ginger have designed the extension, which will include a glazed roof to allow panoramic city views and the project is set to be completed by August 2017.

Stuart Leslie, divisional director at Esh Group, commented: “Leeds College of Music is recognised as a leading European Conservatoire and it is great to be able to play a part in extending the facilities that will support talented musicians and serve music lovers across the community.”

Leeds City College announced it had acquired land at the Quarry Hill development near Leeds city centre to develop a 160,000 sq ft campus following funding from Leeds City Region’s LEP to the tune of £33.4m.

It will house the college’s digital, creative arts and health sciences departments, and allow the expansion of Leeds College of Music.
