Law firm with IT focus closes its doors

A Leeds-based law firm which launched in 2011 to “disrupt the legal sector through a business-focused approach” has closed.

Genus Law, based on Marshall Street,  ceased to practise last month according to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The firm had a structure as a company rather than a partnership and positioned itself as a challenger law firm that wanted to disrupt the legal sector through a business-focused approach. It also had a strong digital focus.

The SRA names Sophie Basso as its last Head of Legal Practice. The news of its closure comes after several years of growth and a series of appointments. In 2015, TheBusinessDesk.com reported that the firm had moved into 3,900 sq ft of office space at Marshalls Mill in Holbeck Urban Village.

The firm’s website is still live, which states: “We are a dynamic modern company without partners. The leadership team consists of a powerful blend of first class lawyers and business professionals with a fresh approach and a deep understanding of the needs and challenges that businesses face.”
