Government-funded highway improvements beginning this month

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will carry out £150,000 worth of overnight improvements to the carriageway on the A15 Humberfield roundabout at Hessle.

The contractor will start on Monday 19 August for ten nights, and will be on site between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday. The council’s contractor will be Britcon (UK) Ltd.

This work is being funded from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, secured by the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership, following a successful bid by the council.

It will be carried out in two phases. During the first stage, the slip roads off the A63 eastbound will be closed and access to the roundabout from North Ferriby will not be possible between 19 and 23 August. Traffic will be diverted on a signed route along the A63 to St Andrew’s Quay roundabout, then onto the A1166 and A1105 Boothferry Road to the Humber Bridge roundabout.

In the second phase, the reverse direction will be signposted between 27 and 30 August, when it will not be possible to access the A63 from the Humber Bridge roundabout.

No work will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August.

During both phases, Ferriby Road will be closed at the roundabout. The diversion will be signed along Ferriby Road, Heads Lane and Boothferry Road.

This project forms the next phase of a series of improvements to roundabouts in the East Riding, funded by £1.2m from the Government’s Local Growth Fund.

Councillor Chris Matthews, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Management, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure the funding for these essential improvements to one of the busiest roundabouts in the East Riding.”

An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesman said: “We apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused during these essential improvement works, but stress that they have been scheduled overnight to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.”
