10,000 capacity music concerts coming to Headingley Stadium

Headingley Stadium will be allowed to host live music events on the pitch – though it can only hold two concerts a year, instead of the requested four.

Leeds Cricket, Football & Athletic Company had applied to Leeds City Council for a premises licence for the stadium. The proposals were considered by the council’s Licensing Sub Committee.

A report presented to committee members explained: “This premises licence application is to allow the Emerald Headingley Stadium to host live music events on the pitch.

“In summary, this application is for live music and supply of alcohol on Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 11pm and on Sundays from 11am until 6pm.

“The application is for a maximum of four events per year with no more than 9,999 spectators at each event.

“The licensing authority is in receipt of four individual letters of objection, all of which are opposed to this application on the grounds of public nuisance.”

While approving the overall application for the premises licence, the committee agreed to limit it to just two live music events per year.

This will still allow the planned Proms on the Pitch, set for September 21, to take place at the ground. The occasion, which will feature a 52-piece orchestra, will help celebrate the recent completion of a £45m revamp of the stadium.
