Yorkshire Society recognises best of the region
ORGANISATIONS and individuals from across the region have been recognised by The Yorkshire Society.
Guests at the Society’s Diamond Jubilee annual dinner and awards ceremony also heard from Andy McMenemy, who raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity after running 66 marathons in 66 cities over 66 successive days.
Keith Madeley, chairman of The Yorkshire Society, said: “The Yorkshire Society awards dinner acknowledges the contribution made by individuals and organisations for the benefit of everyone living in Yorkshire and promotes the region as a centre of excellence.”
Writer and actress Kay Mellor, who is behind a string of screen successes, including the recent BBC hit The Syndicate, won the arts and culture prize. She was also appointed a vice president of the Society.
Dr Geetha Upadhyaya, of arts group Kala Sangam in Bradford, was given the diversity prize.
The charity accolade went to Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice and the business award was received by The Insurance Partnership.
Ian Briggs, editor of TheBusinessDesk.com in Yorkshire, was named media personality.
The event, held at The Leeds Club, raised money for the running of The Yorkshire Society, which encourages businesses, charities and individual people from or living in Yorkshire to promote the county, through an auction.
