BAM hits £200m Hull jackpot

BUILDING firm BAM Construction has started its fourteenth major building project in Hull in as many years.

BAM is working on the £8m Boulevard Academy on the site of Hull FC’s former rugby stadium.

The contractor, which has offices in Leeds, has worked on projects in the city including Hull University’s student union Millennium Makeover; Hull College’s Queens Garden Campus; and Endeavour High School.

It also created Nuffield Hospital and a medical research facility at Castle Hill Hospital.

The largest project it has delivered, however, is the £98m St Stephens retail development on Ferensway in 2007.

Late last year the contractor handed over a 40-cell custody suite and divisional headquarters for 800 staff at Humberside Police on Clough Road and began a major redevelopment of Hull University’s Brynmor Jones Library in September.

BAM regional director James Wimpenny said: “It is fantastic to maintain our record of averaging a major building project in Hull every year.

“We are very much looking forward to progressing Boulevard Academy this year. It is fitting that this project will involve the history and future of the city, creating a free school on the site of Hull FC’s former stadium.”

The Boulevard rugby stadium hosted Hull FC games until the club moved to the KC Stadium in 2003. It also hosted matches in several rugby world cups.

The combined value of BAM’s 14 projects in 14 years is almost £200m.
