New regional director of CBI for Yorkshire & Humber

THE CBI has appointed Lucy Thornycroft as its new regional director in Yorkshire & Humber.

She will be relocating to the region from London where she was head of the construction policy team at the CBI’s headquarters. Prior to that she was head of investment policy and strategy at the National Housing Federation.

The news follows the departure of Giles Fletcher, who landed the top job for the Yorkshire and Humber CBI  earlier this year, but left the business organisation to “pursue other interests”.

Fletcher, who was assistant regional director of the CBI in the North West, took over the reins from head of the CBI in Yorkshire, Andrew Palmer who was seconded to Scotland to become operations director.

In her new role, Thornycroft will support CBI Yorkshire & Humber member companies, representing the area’s business leaders on key policy and regulatory issues.

She said: “It’s a privilege to be working with Yorkshire & Humber’s businesses to give them a strong voice in government.

“Yorkshire & Humber has a rich diversity of businesses, from the strong financial services sector in Leeds to being the country’s largest food-producing region. With the right environment, these firms will be at the heart of future local growth and rebalancing the UK economy.

“I’m looking forward to using my policy and lobbying experience to continue to give Yorkshire & Humber businesses a strong voice.”

Katja Hall, CBI deputy director-general, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lucy into this role. She has significant lobbying experience, having successfully led the CBI’s high-profile work on construction and housing investment, meaning she is well positioned to represent the region’s interests in government.”

Thornycroft joined the CBI as group head of construction in January 2012. She led a team dealing with issues that are at the heart of the CBI’s mission to secure private sector growth covering construction and housing.
