The Weekly Wind-down: Can a Lancastrian cricketer create a reverse-swing at Morrisons?

THINGS have been tough at Bradford-headquartered Morrisons for a while, and desperate times call for desperate measures, but there’s sure to be some unease about the latest development.

Not only has the supermarket group called upon a Lancashire cricketer for help, but his assistance comes in the form of beer.

England bowler James Anderson, along with Marston’s, has launched a pale ale called King of Swing which will be listed in Morrisons.

Yorkshire has its own cricketers, its own beer and in Pyrah, Richard Pyrah’s benefit year ale by Ossett Brewery, its own cricket-related beer.

We suggest a boycott. And we don’t mean Geoffrey.

THE invitation promised “something a little bit different” and those people who were at the event to mark Genus Law’s move into its new offices at Marshalls Mill were not disappointed.

Six different gins were on offer, from rosemary-infused Gin Mare to the James Bond-inspired vesper to the…well, we can’t remember them all but we definitely enjoyed going through the menu.

Requests were already being made for the theme of the first anniversary – brandy and sherry were the early favourites.

We were all told that “as you follow your Genus Law Gin Journey and try the other gins on offer, you’ll start to understand the reasons why Genus Law is a little bit different”.

That’s for others to decide, but if legal services gets a bit slow for Judit Petho and her team, there’s a sideline in organising office parties that we’d be happy to drink to. Cheers!
