Winder Power gears up to create 20 jobs

POWER generation firm Winder Power is gearing up to create 20 jobs at its Leeds base.

The manufacturer of power and distribution transformers and generator equipment is looking to fill roles across the company.

Four apprentice spots are available as part of the expansion, as Winder invests in people across its Yorkshire operations, expanding its workforce which currently stands at 100 staff.

Winder is hoping to have people in roles in design, build, deployment and management of distribution transformers and power transformers by the end of the year.

The firm serves a wide range of customers in the utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors across the UK and globally.

The company will invest in more resources to facilitate its expansion across the company and it is hoped that many of the new apprentice positions could be filled from local third-level universities and institutions in the Yorkshire region.

Operations director, Andy Pinkney, said: “We are proud to have had a significant presence in Leeds for over 100 years, and today marks an important step for the company.

“Our workforce has served as a tremendous asset to our operations to date and we are particularly pleased to be making this sizeable investment to expand our team and, continue our long-standing operations in Yorkshire.”

The firm was originally named RF Winder, which was founded in 1898.

Winder maintains its production facilities at an 80,000 sq ft factory in Leeds where it designs and assembles their products.

The firm moved to their new headquarters in 2008 and has recently secured major contracts with Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution Ltd (SSEPD) and the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk.
