Manufacturer fined after worker gets caught in machinery

A DONCASTER wire manufacturer has been fined after a worker was injured in machinery at their site in Doncaster.

Amnack Limited, trading as Doncaster Cables, based at Millfield Industrial Estate, was fined £7,500 and ordered to pay costs of £2,673 for breaching a health and safety at work act.

The employee’s pelvis was crushed after the operator, who was cleaning the base of an unguarded automatic palletising line, was caught at waist level by the activated loading arm.

This crushed him onto an empty pallet.

HSE inspector Carol Downes said after the hearing:”The prevention of part or whole body access to dangerous parts of machinery is a health and safety basic that is well known throughout all industries.”
