Jet2.com invests £1.71bn in Boeing planes

JET2.COM, part of Leeds-based listed firm the Dart Group, has announced the acquisition of 27 planes from Boeing, in their first direct order to the aircraft giant.

The existing Jet2.com fleet of 60 planes will be boosted by the acquisition of the aircraft, which have a list price of £1.71bn.

The Next Generation 737-800s will be delivered over a two year period and will be taking both airline and package holiday passengers to Jet2.com’s destinations.

Philip Meeson, executive chairman said, “This is an exciting time in Jet2.com’s history as we invest in our next phase of growth and development with this order of new 737-800NG aircraft.

“A cost effective and exceptional aircraft, this new deal will allow us to build upon our already highly successful family friendly leisure travel business.”

Todd Nelp, vice-president of European Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes commented: ”The 737-800 is the best-selling version of the highly successful Next-Generation 737 family and has accumulated more than 6,900 orders worldwide.

“We are very proud that Jet2.com has again selected Boeing to meet its continuing fleet requirements.”

Jet2.com, which was launched in 1987 as a commercial carrier, now flies to 55 different destinations from seven UK airports. It now flies more than 3m customers each year.
