Appointments: Eversheds, Grant Thornton, Saffery Champness, Newtons Solicitors

EVERSHEDS has made two partner appointments in Leeds.

As part of 26 partnership promotions, Kate Newman has been named partner in the commercial team whilst Paul Verrico has been promoted in the litigation and dispute management team.

10 of the overall promotions occurred in Eversheds’ international offices with new partners in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and United Arab Emirates.

Richard Goldsack, Claire Davis, Jim Whittaker and Chris Archer of Grant ThorntonA DIRECTOR has been appointed at Grant Thornton, bolstering its corporate finance team.

Jim Whitaker joins from RSM UK. He will work alongside partner Richard Goldsack and directors Chris Archer and Claire Davis, to focus on the mid-market sector.

Mr Whitaker completed six deals last year with RSM, and will now be responsible for advising public and private companies on fundraisings, management buy-outs, company acquisitions and disposals.

He is also Vice-Chair of Hollybank Trust in Huddersfield.

Sally Appleton of Saffrey ChampnessHARROGATE chartered accountancy firm Saffery Champness has appointed Sally Appleton as a partner in the business.

She joined the firm 11 years ago, and focuses on landed estates and not-for-profit advisory work.

Her appointment means there are now five partners in the firm following the appointment last year of Sally Thomas as tax partner.

Martin Holden, head of office, said: “Sally is knowledgeable and approachable, making her an ideal candidate for partner.

“It is very exciting to be bringing bright young talent into the senior team and in two very specialist areas – landed estate and not-for-profit – both of which are growing markets for us in Harrogate.”

Newtons Solicitors Group managing director,  Chris Newton with Oliver Hebdon and Paul HargreavesLAW firm Newtons Solicitors has hired two commercial solicitors to its team.

Senior employment law solicitor, Paul Hargreaves, joins Newtons Solicitors’ Darlington office and employment.

Company commercial solicitor, Oliver Hebdon, joins in Stokesley having worked with international law firms in Australia. He focuses on employment law, advising managers, employers and individuals. Both were previously at the Newcastle office of BHP Law.

Paul Hargreaves qualified as a solicitor in 2001 after time in the reinsurance industry and the RAF. He was employment team leader at BHP Law and has more than 15 years’ experience, including acting in several high-profile employment cases in the North East.
