Restaurants in Harrogate going down a treat

TWO Harrogate restaurants are coming out on top with accolades and star performances reeling in customers.

Newly-opened Restaurant 92 has been named in The Sunday Times Food Magazine’s UK Top 25 restaurants.

The £2m wine bar and restaurant has been named one of the country’s best value fine dining restaurants, one of only two in Yorkshire.

Founded by developer Ian Humphreys and 23 year-old chef Michael Carr, the restaurant launched in February and is already being showered with praise and accolades.

The Sunday Times said: “Conceptual dishes riff on classics with bells and whistles, harking back to Carr’s training under industry stalwarts Gordon Ramsay and Alyn Williams.”

The Sunday Times praised the lunch menu, at £15 for two courses or £19 for three courses, which includes Scottish langoustine, ox cheeks, halibut, Scarborough woof with chips and charred cauliflower steak with blackened cheesecake, chocolate aero or three cheeses for dessert.

Michael said: “The response we’ve had from our customers so far has been awesome and to be recognised in this latest Sunday Times ranking is absolutely fantastic. We’ve only just started on our journey and we have big ambitions.
“Our goal is to make sure customers go ‘wow’ when they experience Restaurant 92 and the food we serve. Everyone should leave here with a smile on their face.”Richard Daniels Sasso Swing Nights

On the other side of town, Italian restaurant Sasso has launched swing evenings featuring Emmerdale star and Rat Pack entertainer Richard Daniels.

The West Yorkshire-based vocalist, who performs at Sasso on Princes Square, each month, is a regular on ITV’s long-running soap Emmerdale.

The actor and singer has also notched up a number of other TV performances recently, including ITV’s period mini-series Jericho and Channel Four’s Fresh Meat with Jack Whitehall, as well as an appearance on Come Dine With Me.

As well as enjoying a two or three-course Italian meal created by Sasso chef/owner Stefano Lancellotti, diners are entertained by Mr Daniels, whose repertoire includes all the swing favourites from the 50s including Sinatra classics Fly Me To The Moon, Come Fly With Me and One For My Baby and Angel Eyes.

Sasso joint owner Sara Lancellotti said: “As an independent Italian restaurant, we always like to try to offer our diners something new and varied.

“We introduced Richard’s Swing Evenings last year. They have proved a great success – with customers enjoying the combination of authentic Italian cuisine and live music.”

The Swing Nights take place on the third Wednesday of each month, with the next event on May 18.
