Record-breaking year for York Racecourse

YORK RACECOURSE has returned record-breaking year in revenues, reaching £20.5m for the first time.

It eclipses the record set in 2014, of £18.6m in turnover. The firm behind the North Yorkshire destination, York Racecourse Knavesmire, said it had seen near-record attendance as well as higher commercial and hospitality fees.

For the period, the year to 31 October 2015, operating profits reached £2.46m, up from £1.95m the year before.

During the year, the number of race goers rose to 360,837, up 28,272, a 9% increase from 2014.

Prize money was increased increased to a record £6.8m over the year, across 115 events.

James Brennan, head of marketing and sponsorship at York Racecourse, told the York Press: “It was a very successful year, measured across a number of factors, not just the financials.

“We were delighted to be back open this season with the Dante, which showed a strong performance in terms of attendance, and we look forward to another successful year.”
