Historic site brought to market for redevelopment

A DEVELOPMENT opportunity to acquire two Grade II listed buildings, historically owned by one of the last manufacturers of steel tools for leather work and shoe making, has become available.

The sale of adjacent buildings Cornish Works and Wharncliffe Works historically owned by George Barnsley & Sons is being managed by property consultants Commercial Property Partners (CPP) and Fernie Greaves.

The properties at Kelham Island in Sheffield sit on a total site of 1.1 acres.

Rob Darrington, CPP partner, said: “The sale of Cornish Works  & Wharncliffe Works presents one of the last development opportunities in this popular area of Sheffield, which is fast becoming one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant quarters of the city. The site offers huge historic appeal, with many original features remaining, fantastic access to the city and an exciting mix of amenities for both a residential and commercial market.”

Kelham Island was one of the first industrial conservation areas in the country to be designated in order to protect its special character and heritage.

Tim Bottrill, director at Fernie Greaves, added: “This site reflects the last key development opportunity in this highly sought after location. It offers a truly unique development opportunity for someone to be instrumental in shaping this important part of the city.”

The Freehold interest of the site is available to purchase either unconditionally or by way of a subject to planning agreement.
