My Yorkshire – Mark Horsley, CEO of Northern Gas Networks

Northern Gas Networks own all the gas mains in the North East, most of Yorkshire and northern Cumbria transporting gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses.

The network consists of 37,000km of gas mains, enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney, Australia and back.


1: Where do you live/where are you from?
 
I’m about to move to Ellerker, a village on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.
I was born and brought up in York.
 
2: What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
 
York. It’s such a beautiful city, steeped in history and holds many childhood memories.
 
3: What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
 
I would love to take a boat trip along the Yorkshire coast and witness all the beautiful bays and craggy coastline.
 
4: What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
 
Fish & Chips at the Crab & Lobster near Thirsk
 
5: What is your most Yorkshire trait?
 
Straight-talking without being offensive
 
6: Favourite piece of trivia about the region
 
Yorkshire has more acres of land than there are letters in the Bible (I think…)
 
7: What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
 
Yorkshire pudding (I know it’s not a person!)

Swimming in the North Sea
 
10: What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
 
I would take the thatched cottages from the Cotswolds.
 
11: What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
 
Nothing is overrated, this is ‘God’s County’!
