Engineering firm wraps up cool deal for food industry specialist

ENGINEERS from a Yorkshire company are streamlining food packaging production processes for one of the UK’s leading food industry suppliers at its manufacturing plant near Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Aqua Cooling, an industrial cooling specialist engineering company with offices in York and Hampshire, designed the bespoke cooling system for Anson Packaging, part of Danish-based multinational Faerch Plast Group, which manufactures food-to-go packaging.

Anson’s unique manufacturing process takes virgin and recycled materials and processes them into finished products in house; the extrusion line produces plastic sheet, then the thermoforming line processes this into the end product.

Shaun Lancaster, Aqua’s senior designer and project engineer, developed the bespoke cooling system for Anson’s Cambridge facility.

He said: “Our client was looking to invest in state-of-the-art technology for the future, and needed to upgrade an existing chiller system in order to cope with an increased production load — the result of high demand for its food packaging products.”

Aqua’s system design spreads the cooling load, ensuring that optimum cooling and ultra-high efficiency levels are always achieved.  It also has full built-in redundancy – so if there should ever be a malfunction the full cooling process will be maintained.

As a result of Aqua’s work, Faerch Plast has taken out a full five-year service contract for its Anson site with full
access to Aqua’s rapid response team should the client encounter any problems.
An Anson spokesman said: “Thanks to Aqua, we can now achieve maximum efficiency at a reduced load, ensuring we don’t have excess machinery on stand-by in case of faults.”
