PPC candidate Nicolle Ndiweni with Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper

Invest in Nottingham’s Nicolle Ndiweni has been selected as Labour’s candidate for Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Ndiweni’s includes roles in both the public and private sector, from business development to local government. She is a former district councillor and Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities.

She sits on Nottingham’s Professional Services Committee and Nova Education Trust, a cross-phase Multi Academy Trust educating over 10,000 pupils across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

She also works as a business expansion specialist for Invest in Nottingham.

Ndiweni said: “I live in the heart of Derby and believe everyone should feel safe in the places they work, live and choose to call home. With a background in Criminology and International Relations, along with experience in both the public and private sectors, I hope to bring a unique perspective to the role of Police Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire and deliver for our city and county.

“I have listened to our residents’ concerns for their communities and their future. And now we must act in order for us to ensure that we are all protected from harm and have the necessary support we need, when we need it. Our public services are the backbone of our society and we know that the staff and everyday services are on their knees.

“My hope is that collectively, we can tackle the challenges we face and make Derbyshire safer together. By working together with residents, the police force, partnership organisations, businesses, political and community leaders and the wider criminal justice system, we can build a safer and stronger community.”

The election for the Commissioner will take place in May 2024.
