80 jobs to be created as pub gets green light for extension
Chilled Pubs (East Leake) – the new owners of a previously-vacant pub in East Leake – has received planning approval for an extension and refurbishment to its dining area and kitchen including a new permanent marquee.
The green light was given with the help of planning consultancy Marrons.
The Bulls Head, in Main Street, will be adding an extra 170 covers, plus a 96 sq m marquee at the rear and side of the venue, an extended kitchen and new outdoor seating area.
Closed since summer 2022, the Nottinghamshire village pub has been taken over by new owners Chilled Pubs, which has another six venues across the Midlands including in Derby and Lichfield.
The pub also has plans to renovate the car park and carry out landscape improvements.
Richard and Loren Pope at Chilled Pubs said: “We’re delighted to have received planning permission for our extension and refurbishment so we can bring this beautiful pub back to life and transform it into a Chilled Pub.
“East Leake is the perfect setting for a Chilled Pub and we have had overwhelming support from the local community, which has been fantastic.
“We are all very excited to bring our fresh food offer and authentic woodfired pizzas to the area. We have an extensive drinks range, including our own homemade lemonade, and we are building a new cocktail bar to deliver our quirky range of cocktails and mocktails.
“We can’t wait to give everyone a warm and friendly welcome when we reopen the doors of this wonderful pub.”
Karen Brightman, planning director at Marrons, added: “The building has remained empty since its closure last year, so it is fantastic to see the new owners investing in its redevelopment to bring it back to life, helping to boost the local economy as well as create jobs in the local area.”
Supporting Brightman in the planning application was planner Will Seymour. Architect for the refurbishment and extension are Art of Building.
Works on the extension have already started and the doors will open in late August. The new venue is expected to create approximately 80 full-time and part-time jobs in the local area.
