When You Wish Upon a Star reveals new CEO

When You Wish Upon a Star, the Nottingham-headquartered wish-granting charity, has appointed Joe Williamson as its new chief executive officer, effective 23rd June.
Williamson joins after seven years with the Sheffield United Community Foundation where he worked as chief operating officer.
When You Wish Upon a Star, which is celebrating its 35th year, has just moved into a new head office in Nottingham from its original old home at Futurist House.
Williamson replaces outgoing CEO Anita Cleugh.
She said: “It has been an absolute privilege to lead When You Wish Upon a Star and help deliver such precious moments to the most deserving Wish Children and their families. I look forward to seeing the charity continue to grow and make a difference for years to come. I know Joe will bring a wealth of experience to this wonderful charity and I wish him all the very best in his new role.”
Williamson added: “It is both a tremendous honour and a privilege to be appointed into the role of chief executive officer at When You Wish Upon a Star.
“For over three decades, this great charity has stood as a beacon of hope, love, and light – making dreams come true for children – and their families – living with life-threatening illnesses. I am so proud and excited to join an organisation with such a powerful legacy of compassion and impact.
As I take on this incredible responsibility, I do so with great respect for the work that has come before me, and with that, a clear vision for building upon it. I truly believe in the transformative power of making a wish come true. It’s not just about the magical experience – but restoring joy, strength, and belief in the impossible during the most challenging of times.
Together with our dedicated staff, supporters, volunteers, and partners, I am committed to growing our reach, strengthening our foundations, and ensuring that we grant as many wishes as possible moving forward. I look forward to leading When You Wish Upon a Star, with a new sense of inspiration, staying true to our values, and staying committed to the children and families we serve.”
