Bank to axe 50 jobs in Leicestershire

Santander is to make at least 50 people redundant at its Leicestershire base, according to reports.
The bank is said to have started a consultation process with its call centre staff, based at Carlton Park, in Narborough.
The workers facing the axe are part of the customer experience and complaints teams.
Sue Willis, managing director of customer experience and complaints for Santander UK, said: “In line with our strategy to simplify our business and align our organisation more closely to the needs of our customers, we are proposing changes to two of our Leicester-based teams.
“We understand that this is a difficult time for our staff and we are working closely with our unions and other business areas to ensure that those who may be impacted are considered for opportunities in other areas of the bank.”
A spokeswoman for Santander in Leicestershire added: “We are currently consulting with colleagues. Once the process has been finalised we would expect to be able to release more detail.
“For now, though, our main focus remains on those colleagues impacted by the proposals and our priority is to preserve employment.
“For colleagues who wish to remain with Santander, we will be working with them to identify suitable alternative roles and will be offering support to identify any redeployment opportunities that may be available within the bank.
Santander UK set up its huge base at Carlton Park when its Spanish parent acquired Alliance & Leicester in 2008. It employs around 2,000 people at the site.
